Chapter 2
Pete

The sudden wave of cool air rushing past your body, and under the board must be the best part about skate boarding. But ditching school maybe wasn’t such a great idea. Mum will be angry at me for the rest of the year, and she would confiscate my brand new board. Man I love boarding. I could do it all day and never get sick of it. The end of the ramp was a few meters away, so I braced myself for my first ever jump. I outstretched my arms (no matter how lame it looked) and kept my balance. I flew off the ramp, arms outstretched like wings. It only occurred to me how insane it was to jumps off a 10 meter high ramp, without a helmet, over hard cement. Oh, and I am trying to land on a miniature ramp 7 meters away. I could here my mates cheering for me as I took flight. And that’s when it happened, my board started to fall away from my feat. I had worried about that so much! And now it was happening! I was a few meters away from the ramp, and a meter above it. I could feel the sweat under my arms drying from the air. I was going at top speed, but everything seamed so slow. My board had dropped 30 centimeters below my feat now. This is it, I thought quickly. Come back board! And the strange thing is I felt to board’s comfort under my feet again. I was too shocked to concentrate about my landing. So I got a bit wobbly and I almost fell off. I couldn’t care less, I was in shock. I could here my mates cheering, and when I got off my board, they slapped me high fives. Just as they did when I rounded my first corner, of when I did my first 360 in the air. A clap of thunder shot its way into our ears. And we headed for our alley which we always hang out. I must say, you are probably thinking I’m some popular skater-guy. No, I’m a soft 15 year old who doesn’t know how to tie his own shoes. Actually I do, that was a figure of speech. I’m a wimp, baby, mummy’s boy, scaredy-cat; anyway you like to put it. I had only just learned to board cos I wanted to be like ‘them’. And when I mean ‘them’ it’s the guys I hang out with. I can’t exactly call them mates, well… I did, but lets just say, I was freaked by the jump.
“Woh! Mate, you’re the first guy who did that jump! Ever!” cried out Jake, slapping me in the back. Jake, what can I say? He’s a good man, loyal, helpful and encouraging.
“Really?” I exclaim, “Does that mean I past the test?” Oops, forgot to tell you about the test. Yes, I had to take a test to get into Jake’s gang. Stupid, but true.
“You past the test of courage…” said Kirk, kicking a little rock with every step.
“What?” I stopped in my tracks, and glared at the 4 smirking teenagers. I balled up fists, but unclenched them, knowing I don’t stand a chance against these tough guys. “You guys said there was only one more after the jump!”
“Did we? Oh that’s right… sorry man,” said Dom, as Jake stepped forward.
“You know what I said, a few days ago before we agreed to do the tests?” Jake asked. I shook my head… oh brother! Not another lecture.
“Well… I said that you have to be like us to be one of us, true?” Jake asked. I nodded. “Well, you also have to look like us too, ya know!”
“Huh?” I looked at the 4 boys, stunned. And what do they have in common, with looks? Black hair or dark brown. Black tops and dark jeans or shorts. Crap. I’m alright with the clothing part… but no way am I dying my light brown hair!
“Got a problem with that pussy-cat?” Kirk cooed. I stepped forward defensively.
“What? No way am I dying my hair!” I exclaimed, “You guys… you…” I stopped, any offensive words would chuck me out for good. “You… lunatics! I like my hair colour, never, am I dying it.” I imagined myself with pitch black hair, dark clothes, going to school with my shirt buttons undone, just like these guys. Yuck, I though, I’m not that desperate! I shuddered at the thought, and thought about all the girls would look at me like I’m kind of jerk. Jake smiled at me encouragingly. Why am I hanging out with these guys anyway? I won’t be able to live my life… but theirs.
“Pete is a chicken,” Kirk suddenly shouted. He made clucking noises and tucked his hands under his arms. “ORRRK! ORRRK!” I sighed, nice imitation of a chicken freak. Your so good you might actually be one! Jake grabbed Kirk’s arm and pulled him up to his face, “Shut it, Kirk! …” Jake also whispered something in Kirk’s ear that I couldn’t here. Kirk snorted, but covered his mouth. Kirk motioned for Dom and Kyle (another gang member) to come so he can whisper something in there ears. Dom and Kyle also agreed.
“Pete, wanna stay the night at my place? It’ll be fun, my sister and her two friends are going.”
“What about my looks?” I asked, excited about the part about sleeping over at someone’s house where girls are also staying. “Don’t you want me to dye my hair?”
“Nah man, its alright. Get over that, Kirk got a little carried away,” Jake said. Kirk was standing behind Jake, as usual, and smiled wickedly. We started walking to Jake’s house, talking about the girls staying there and what kind of tricks we could play. But someone interrupted out convocation.
Shut the hell up fart-bag!
I look around wildly, “Who said that?!” It wasn’t one of the gang members, surely. It was a girl’s voice. A hint of Australian accent, and she sounded angry. The other guys’ stopped walking and called back for me. Where did it come from? I looked around, but all I could see was the evening gloom around the shadows slowly becoming shorter. I start to panic. Was it just in my head? Surely the others would have heard the cruel sentence, and punched the girl up. The gang stopped for me again, and called out. I ran up to them and continued walking. We arrived at Jake’s a little while later, they had a game of rugby in the twilight. But they made me sit out most of the time. My heart wasn’t in the game. I was still worrying about what had happened earlier. Something even scarier had happened in my phone call with mum later that evening. A little voice, the one I had heard earlier. It said, dragging on in a bored Aussie accent, Geez, I hate math! That’s when I realized; they were someone else’s thoughts.
I wrote this chapter, and i must say, i am very proud of it!

This is the second chapter to the story, (well dah) and the pic i am sure you know that its the book cover, (rough copy, its not very good i know).
